Metal Shearing

Part processing steel plate includes getting the steel into the correct shape before it is bent or sent back to our customer. This is done on a CNC machine for more intricate parts or on a shear for more simplistic higher production run square or rectangle shaped parts. Edvan has two production shears and cut to length line for gauge projects.

Metal Shear Specifications:

  • 20’ Shear – 1/4” Max Material Thickness

  • 14’ Shear – 1/8” (10 Gage) Max Material Thickness

  • 48” Max Material Width Cut To Length Line

  • 1/8” Max Material Thickness

    • Hot Rolled Mild Steel
    • High Strength AR
    • Galvanized
    • Satin Coat
    • Anodized

CNC Plasma Cutting

A CNC plasma cutter is a type of computer numerical controlled metal cutting machine with CNC controller that utilizes a plasma torch to cut different metals into different profiles and shapes, including mild steel, stainless steel, carbon steel, galvanized steel, hot rolled steel, cold rolled steel, and aluminium.

Edvan has two CNC Plasma Cutting Machines with the following specifications:

  • 6’ x 26’ table bed both plasma and torch head attachments
  • 15’ x 30’ table bed with plasma and beveling capabilities

    • Tolerance is +/- .0001 inch
  • Material Size standard cutting on our machine

    • Gage Plate 10 – 26 thicknesses
    • Steel Plate 1/8” to 4” thicknesses
  • Anchor Bolt Template
  • Base Plate & Cap Plate on Structural Members

  • Lifting Lugs, Embed Plates
  • Structural Supports & Stiffeners

CNC Water Jet Cutting – Serving Edmonton & Nisku

A CNC water jet is an industrial tool that uses a high-pressure water jet to cut various materials. It can use water alone to cut soft materials like wood and rubber, or the water can be mixed with an abrasive substance (like garnet or aluminum oxide) to cut harder materials.

Edvan’s CNC water jet cutting machine is primarily used for cutting a wide range of metals. We us a garnet mixture as our abrasive substance. This cold cutting process eliminates slag deformation or dross waste and is an excellent option when your project cannot have a heat signature that is left by traditional plasma or laser cutting.

Edvan has one CNC Water Jet table with the following specifications:

  • 5’ x 8’ Cutting table bed

    • Pump 40,000 PSI

Metal Cutting FAQ

Find answers to the most common questions we get about our metal cutting services.

What Is Metal Shear Cutting?2021-09-14T16:31:41+00:00

Shearing, also known as die cutting, is a process which cuts steel stock without the formation of chips or the use of burning or melting. A shear is a tool for cutting metal and other materials by a closing motion of two sharp, closely adjoining edges – it the separation of workpieces by two blades moving in opposite directions past each other. Shearing is primarily used to cut sheet stock into smaller sizes in preparation for other processes.

What Is Plasma Cutting?2021-09-14T16:32:20+00:00

Plasma cutting (plasma arc cutting) is a process that cuts through electrically conductive materials by means of an accelerated jet of hot plasma. It is essentially a melting process in which a jet of ionised gas at temperatures above 20,000°C is used to melt and expel material from the cut. During the process, an electric arc is struck between an electrode (cathode) and the workpiece (anode). Typical materials cut with a plasma torch include steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass and copper, although other conductive metals may be cut as well.
